Growing Chefs!

Our class is participating in the Growing Chefs program this Spring!  Three chefs come to our classroom every other week.  They teach us all about gardening.  We talked about what plants need, why gardening and farming is so important and how we can plant a garden, even in the classroom!

The first week, we looked at different seeds and helped to plant our classroom garden...

We planted:  lettuce, beans, snowpeas, radishes and beets!
We looked at all the seeds.  Some were big and others were very tiny!
Then everyone had a turn to plant something!

Week 2... LOOK!  The arugula has sprouted!!!

These are radishes.
And.... look at our snow peas!!!  They came up very quickly!

Also in our 2nd lesson, we played a "vegetable guessing game"!  The chefs brought in some vegetables that many of us had never heard of or tasted.

Do you know the names of any of these vegetables??

After we learned about the vegetables, everyone had a chance to try them.  Many of us loved the sun choke, the fennel and the avocado!!  Maybe we will ask our families to try them at home!
